PFC needs volunteers

Agoura High School Parent Faculty Club (PFC) is raising funds for the "Every 15 Minutes" program, a national campaign that challenges high school juniors and seniors to take responsibility whenever they drive. It emphasizes the disastrous impacts of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Jill Mortrell, PFC first vice president and co-chair of the event with Denise Daniel, said the goal of the first phase is to raise about $30,000 while incorporating community involvement.

Meals will be required for members of the California Highway Patrol, Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station and Los Angeles County Fire Department. Also participating will be Adelphia Cablevision, student and parent volunteers, clergy, therapists and others from 5 a.m. on the first day through after lunch on the second day.

Students will participate in a retreat on the first day and will be sequestered in a local hotel with clergy and therapists. Parents, too, will be working with counselors, teachers and therapists.

"We want the community to jump on board with us," Mortrell said. Part of the funding will go for scholarships. A memorial service will also be conducted for parents who’ve lost children in vehicle crashes. The PFC is also seeking donations of facial tissues, coffee, T-shirts, other items and money.

For further information, contact Jill Mortrell at (818) 991-3587 or Denise Daniel at (818) 991-4114.
