Reyes Adobe open for tours

The city of Agoura Hills has announced that the Reyes Adobe historical site is now open for public tours the second Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as the second Saturday of each month from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Reyes Adobe rancho joins other sites in Ventura County that help preserve early California history. The rancho features an historic adobe home with rooms depicting various periods of the house, interpretive displays on everyday rancho life and a barn that is now a museum.

Arrangements can be made for educational group tours, which include hands-on activities and demonstrations of daily life of early California settlers as portrayed by authentically- costumed docents.

Program highlights include the role of the rancho vaquero (cowboy), trade with Yankee clipper ships, social life, and important political events such as the Bear Flag Revolt and the Treaty of Hidalgo.

For details or to arrange a special educational tour, please call the Agoura Hills Recreation Center at (818) 597-7361.
