Not in favor of auto detailing facility Not in favor of auto detailing facility As a resident of Oak View Ranch, which borders the proposed commercial development of a two-story automobile detailing facility at the intersection of Reyes Adobe and Canwood, I believe the Acorn’s endorsement of the project, which requires variances to current building restrictions, fails to adequately consider the rights of the six families whose homes share the property line. These families purchased their properties years ago when the lot was zoned residential. The out-of-town developer plans to add a "detail center," operating seven days a week, even though the carwash he owns across the street details cars seven days a week already. The county restrictions on the property require a variance permitting construction of the 10,000- square-foot building within 15 feet of the backyards of the homeowners. The Acorn opinion used pejorative terms such as the acronym NIMBY, rather than questioning why the property owner would want to force a commercial property on the families. Creating wealth for the developer and increasing the city’s tax base are certainly laudatory objectives. But the families’ rights to enjoyment of their property must not be trampled by the city in the rush for additional revenue. Kevin Park Agoura Hills |
