Tour of Hope is week ride

Lance Armstrong, cancer survivor and six-time winner of the Tour de France, will kick off the Bristol-Myers Squibb Tour of Hope from 11:30 p.m. to midnight on Thurs., Sept. 30 at City of Hope Cancer Center, 1500 E. Duarte Road, Duarte.

The Tour of Hope is a week-long journey across America by a team of 20 people who have been touched by cancer. The Tour of Hope Team will relay 3,500 miles from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. in eight days to raise awareness of cancer clinical trials and research.

Armstrong, the Tour of Hope Team and 100 additional cyclists will be on hand "for an inspirational night of celebratory activities" leading up to the midnight ride starting on Hope Drive in Duarte.

Founded in 1913, City of Hope is a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the highest designation bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
