Chabad invites all Jews to attend Yom Kippur services Chabad invites all Jews to attend Yom Kippur services The rabbis of Chabad of the Conejo are inviting and urging all Jews to attend Yom Kippur services, which begin with the Kol Nidre service at 6:30 p.m. Fri., Sept. 24. Services will continue on Sat., Sept. 25 starting at 9:30 a.m. The Yizkor memorial services will be at noon and services continue with the Neilah services at 5 p.m. The Yom Kippur fast will end at 7:30 p.m Saturday. The Yizkor memorial service will be recited as well for all those who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attacks in Israel. The traditional service is blended with "contemporary and meaningful insights," making the Yom Kippur service "a bond with the past and an inspiration for the future." Insights into many of the prayers and customs are explained during services. A staff of 20 educators and rabbinical students will be conducting junior congregation for the children. That program will include prayers, stories, songs, contests and prizes. A teen service will be held at the Hyatt as well as a program for children with special needs. Services will be held at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza Hotel, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village. Additional services will be at: Chabad of Westlake Village, 2524 Townsgate Road, Westlake Village; Los Robles Greens Golf Course, 299 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks; and Chaparral Elementary School, Calabasas. All prayer books are Hebrew/English. The fast culminates with the Shema Yisroel and other verses recited in unison, and the final blowing of the shofar. It is the tradition of Chabad to close off the Neilah (closing prayers of the high holidays) with "tremendous singing and emotion in the Chassidic spirit." Refreshments will be served following the fast. For more information, please call Chabad at (818) 991-0991. |
