Interested in family history? Here’s a celebration to attend The Conejo Valley Genealogical Society, Inc. will host an event marking the 25th anniversary of the group’s formation from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tues., Oct. 12 at the Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. The meeting is free and open to anyone with an interest in researching family history. On Oct. 30, 1979, about 50 members of the community "digging" for facts about their family tree met at the Cameron Center in Newbury Park. Since their initial meeting was in October, the theme of each October meeting has been based on Halloween. This meeting will describe the history of the society and will honor the men and women who’ve made it successful. Members will show the results of years of cemetery and courthouse digging, which, in some cases, led to the discovery of real witches in their ancestry. The results of the society’s labors will be on display beginning at 5:30 p.m., and a social with refreshments will be presented until 7 p.m. For information, write: Conejo Valley Genealogical Society, Inc., P.O. Box 1228, Thousand Oaks, CA 91358-0228. |
