City council should overturn the detailing shop City council should overturn the detailing shop For those residents on vacation, this letter is to bring you up to date on the inappropriate automotive detail and car wash approved by the (Agoura Hills) Planning Commission on Aug. 5 to be located on the northeast corner of Reyes Adobe and Canwood. Residents of Agoura Hills have appealed the project and the city council will hear the appeal within 45 days. In 1987, the city council approved a zoning change for this property from residential to commercial with the stipulation that whatever was constructed on the property must be compatible with the adjacent residential property owners. A car wash and automotive detail center, open seven days a week with its noise, traffic, number of employees and volume of "household" chemicals is inappropriate for this site, a gateway to Agoura. In addition, the property owner was granted a zoning variance to put the facility even closer to the residential homeowners than required by current code. When the adjacent homes were constructed, this property was not developed due to the high content of alluvium in the soil, a silt/sand mixture with high water content. The property also sits on a storm drain that leads to the ocean. The existing property owner has inadequately maintained the vacant site as evidenced by the ongoing buildup of trash. Please contact the city of Agoura Hills at (818) 597-7328 to voice your concern over the trash-laden site. We should not have to face this as a gateway to our city. Plan on attending the city council meeting to appeal this project. The date of the hearing will be posted on the vacant lot. Barbara Schweitzer Agoura Hills |
