Temple prepares spiritually for High Holy Days

Temple Beth Haverim will host a series of open house events for those who are considering possible membership. These are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 29 and Sept. 12, and at 7:30 p.m. Fri., Sept. 10 at the temple, 29900 Ladyface Court, Agoura Hills.

At 9 p.m. Sat., Sept. 11, the temple will prepare spiritually for the Ten Days of Repentance by observing "S’lihot," when Jews worldwide begin the process of reflection, introspection and reconciliation with their fellow human beings and God.

This annual service, held on the Saturday night preceding Rosh Hashana, is an inspirational way to welcome in the High Holy Days. The evening will begin with Havdalah, a ceremony to conclude the Sabbath day, followed by a wine and cheese reception.

A concert titled "Highlights of the High Holy Days" will be presented. It will feature Cantor Kenny Ellis and the TBH Adult Choir under the direction of Eileen Weiser.

Rabbi Gershon Johnson will deliver an inspirational message introducing the S’lihot service, which by tradition ends after midnight.
