Red Cross urges preparation for wildfires

Fire safety experts from the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles are urging residents to prepare for what could be the worst wildfire season in history, as reported in an Aug. 9 Los Angeles Times article titled "Dangerous Fire Season is Forecast."

In addition to readily accessible information provided by the Red Cross, a special section of their website offers the most up-to-date fire prevention measures and safety information along with links to local fire departments, law enforcement and the U.S. Forest Service.

Tips for Homeowners in Fire Prone Areas:

•Provide a protection space around your home. •Clear all dry brush and tree limbs 200 feet from buildings. •Check your roof for dead leaves and other debris. •Make a family safety plan and build an emergency supplies kit.

"This fire season could easily top last year’s devastating blazes because there are so many more contributing factors," said Bob Norvell, Preparedness Officer for the Los Angeles Chapter. "It is not only important, but essential that everyone takes the right precautions to protect their homes and families."
