Citizen input sought on

Calabasas theatre

Citizen input sought on

One of the things that I particularly like about our community of Calabasas has been our emphasis on quality.

We build great parks, have terrific teachers in our schools, and hold development in reasonable balance to our beautiful open space. Now, as our city embarks on building its own civic complex, it is very important for the public to be given the opportunity to provide their thoughts as to what that complex should look like.

Imagine attending the theatre in Calabasas or an indoor art exhibit highlighting our many talented local artists. We are a city that should have a small, yet functional theatre. The theatre should be designed after taking suggestions from our arts community. Rather than selecting an arbitrary square footage for the building, we should first consider what we want to accommodate within the building and allot the appropriate footage as per the citizens’ requests, wants and needs. After all, the citizens of Calabasas are paying for this civic complex. A quality, acoustically adequate community theatre would be such an addition to Calabasas; however, the current proposal for the complex is nothing more than an old-fashioned high school auditorium.

A group of citizens have formed a committee called Spotlighting the Arts. We think the Calabasas theatre should seat between 200 and 300 people and should be a showplace to our community, a community that encompasses individuals who work in theatre, film, entertainment as well as many other endeavors of the fine arts.

If you are interested in learning what we are doing or joining us in Spotlighting the Arts, please call (818) 876-9100.
