Study shows safety of local water

LVMWD tap water is quite drinkable

Local residents can be confident that their tap water is safe to drink.

Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD) has released its annual Water Quality Report, which should be received by all customers in July.

The report summarizes the results of year-round testing and monitoring of the drinking water served to district customers.

LVMWD General Manager John Mundy said, "The report shows we are well within the stringent state and federal guidelines for drinking water, which is among the most highly regulated of consumer commodities. LVMWD’s water not only met all the requirements, it typically tested better than required.

"This confirmation of our water’s safety is particularly relevant right now. Over the last few weeks, it has been widely reported that warm-weather algae blooms in Castaic Lake have caused noticeable changes in the taste and scent of water provided by the Metropolitan Water District, our wholesale supplier," Mundy said.

"This situation is now improving but the key message people should remember is that the water we serve continues to be safe to consume."

The report contains charts of primary (health-related) standards, secondary (qualitative) measurements and results from additional testing for trace elements. There’s also information on the origin of the water served by LVMWD and locations where consumers can obtain more information on water-related topics.
