Get in shape for a good cause Individuals interested in getting in top shape for a good cause are invited to attend information meetings to learn about the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT), described as "the world’s largest endurance sports training program." TNT provides the coaching, training "and even the travel opportunities to make athletic goals a reality," so the organization encourages newcomers to participate. Participants will train to walk, or walk/run, for the Santa Barbara Half Marathon on Nov. 6 or the Honolulu Marathon on Dec. 12. Information meetings will be at 7 p.m. Sun., July 18 and at 7:30 p.m. Thurs., July 22 at Future Track, 30125 Agoura Road, Ste. A, Agoura Hills, in the Town Center. Training locations will rotate among Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks and Wood Ranch in Simi Valley. In exchange for training and support, participants raise money toward cures for leukemia, the disease that is the leading killer of children; Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the largest group of blood cancers; and myeloma, a "nearly incurable" cancer that strikes the elderly and African-Americans in particular. A new corporate team for TNT, "Team Future Track," has recently been formed to serve the Conejo Valley, Simi Valley and Camarillo areas. Future Track will be the host; owner Bill Duley has been involved with TNT participants over the years. Reach Duley or the store manager, Gloria Rios, at (818) 991-4786. The head coach is Chrissy Lomax, who has coached more than 200 first-time marathoners to finish lines in various events. She has been assigned a coaching area of Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley for TNT. For additional information, please call her at (805) 497-8136. |
