Poet’s life to be examined

Judith Gabriel Vinje, with assistance from soprano Cara Clove and actor Trond Woxen, will present a program on the life of A.O. Vinje, "The Wandering Poet of Telemark," at 7:30 p.m. Fri., May 14 in Overton Hall at California Lutheran University, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. Judith Vinje is a distant relative of the writer.

Considered one of Norway’s greatest lyric poets, Aasmund Olavsson Vinje (1818-1870) was a farmer’s son from Telemark who became a lawyer and a journalist. Vinje’s contemporary, Edvard Grieg, and others composed solo songs to the poet’s lyric texts. Songs of Grieg set to Vinje’s lyrics will be sung by the Norwegian-American soprano Clove.
