Marriage should be reserved for heterosexuals Marriage is beneficial to society. Let me rephrase that: heterosexual marriage is beneficial to society. And government is absolutely correct in granting special privileges to it. But notice that the privileges are granted to the institution of marriage, not to the individuals comprising it and therefore there is no civil rights component to the allocation of privileges. Straight marriage is the human ideal for generating, nurturing and civilizing the next generation of humanity. That’s a critical benefit to society; without new citizens, society dies. Society owes straight marriage an enormous debt and it pays that debt—in part—by the privileges that government grants to marriage. Only those societal structures that benefit society are encouraged by government. Gay unions are narcissistic; gays don’t breed. They take genes from the gene pool, but they put nothing back. These genes die with them in the selfish conceit of sexual satiation. Society owes no debt to gays. Gay unions do not—and ought not—receive the same privileges that government grants to straight marriage. Government support for gay marriage or gay civil unions can make the swindle of innocent children only easier to promote. We need a strong marriage amendment. Every child has a right to grow up straight. We must protect children from the Pied Pipers of Perpetual Pleasure, and we can do so without appearing insensitive to loving, gay couples. Wm. O.
