Recycling aluminum little more than a new tax

Recycling aluminum little more than a new tax

The California Redemption Value (CRV) is a euphemism for just another tax on canned and bottled beverages. We are paying at least 2 ½ cents on each item with almost no possibility of redeeming those items for a full amount of 2 ½ cents. Have you ever tried to get your alleged "CRV" back at the supermarket? Instead, you sell them to recyclers for scrap at less than 1 cent each or donate them to your trash collector who then sells them for scrap. What did the state of California do with the 2 ½ cents times billions of items?

Now the California state legislature is proposing an increase in the CRV, and, laughingly, they say it is to promote recycling. Do you think that they will make it any easier to redeem? Of course not; it is just a tax on your beverage consumption, which could be over 20 percent. Get ready for the tax increase!
