Arboretum offers programs for kids Arboretum offers programs for kids The Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden has two February programs geared for "crafty" kids with green thumbs. From 9 to 11 a.m. Sat., Feb. 7, children ages 5-8 are invited to participate in the Saturday Kids’ Gardening Club. Education specialist Lisa Beach will teach children how to plant flowers and tend a garden, make a garden journal, create garden crafts, play nature games and more. Parents should be aware that this is a "drop-off" program. Cost is $10-$12. At 2 p.m. families are invited to join Beach in the Family Adventures program that will meet under the big oak tree in front of Ayres Hall. The program’s project will be "Homemade Paper Valentines." Participants will learn how to make homemade natural paper out of recycled paper, then create Valentines with this homemade paper and pressed flowers from the garden. The cost is $15-$20 per family. The Arboretum is at 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia. Pre-registration is required. For more information, call (626) 821-4623. |
