Greedy developers have ruined California

This is in response to Michael Pattinson’s ridiculous Dec. 4 letter regarding the stiffer regulations against builders in California. According to Pattinson, California needs to build its way out of its current budget problems. "California is short 1 million homes." I think Pattinson needs to stop seeing dollar signs and realize Californians have had it with greedy developers ruining this state. Open space is scarce. Wildlife has been forced from their habitat. All to make way for more homes, more people, more traffic, more smog and more misery for all of us that already live and work here.

California needs a million more homes like China needs a million more people. We have enough homes in this state. If you can’t afford what’s available in housing today, then you shouldn’t move to California. Pattinson’s greed and ignorance blind him from the real issues. Where is the water and electricity supposed to come from to supply another million homes?

Our natural resources are already pushed to the limits. Our streets, highways and freeways are grossly overcrowded. Is the solution to build more roads, more freeways or even (God forbid) toll ways?

No, stop the building now! Enough is enough, and if the residents of this state need to pay higher taxes to offset the difference, then let’s put it on the ballot next election.

I’m willing to guess any measure to make it more costly and more difficult for developers to get their "mega-housing projects" built would be overwhelmingly supported by the voters.
