‘Spirits Soar in 2004’ is
Conejo Valley Days theme
The theme for the 2004 Conejo Valley Days (CVD) has been selected, the Conejo Valley Days board of directors announced recently. "Spirits Soar in 2004," submitted by Thousand Oaks resident Sherry Cabrera, was selected from 186 entries. Cabrera came up with the theme to show how the nation has come together through the rough times it has experienced in the past two years. "It’s a spirit that makes me proud to see," said Cabrera. Cabrera moved to Thousand Oaks as an infant with her parents in 1971. She remembers a town that was much smaller and rural than the big city that Thousand Oaks has become. "We always went to Conejo Valley Days," said Cabrera. "Conejo Valley Days is the one thing you can count on as everything else changes. It reminds me of what Thousand Oaks was like when I was a kid." As the theme winner, Cabrera and her family are eligible to ride in the CVD Parade. A donation of $100 will be made to the charity of her choice. Cabrera’s theme will be on all Conejo Valley Days items including badges, patches and belt buckles. It will be incorporated in other CVD printed materials and on the CVD Website. "Selecting the theme is the beginning of the CVD activities," said Ken Calcut, 2004 CVD general chairman. "We’ll now be able to design 2004 advertising and collateral materials for next year’s events." Conejo Valley Days officially begins on Sat., March 6 with the CVD Kick-Off Picnic, Classic Car Show and Tiny Tots Pageant at Conejo Creek Park North (Janss Road exit off the 23 Freeway). The CVD parade will be on Sat., April 24 on Thousand Oaks Boulevard and the five-day carnival and festival is set for April 28 through May 2 at Conejo Creek Park South.
