Fong accepts local post

Superintendent of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA), Woody Smeck, has announced the appointment of a new deputy superintendent, Lorenza Fong.

"Fong is a 25-year veteran of the National Park Service and brings with her extensive experience in park management, leadership and skills in community partnerships," said Smeck.

Fong holds a bachelor of science in biology from New York City College.

She’s served in various capacities with a host of park agencies both nationally and internationally and was with SMMNRA in the mid-1990s, when she transferred to SMMNRA in January 1994. As Chief of Interpretation she oversaw the daily operations for the Division of Interpretation/Education.

SMMNRA is the largest urban national park in the National Park System and its Mediterranean ecosystem is one of the most threatened resources worldwide.
