Fire station to remain open, share paramedics A recent article on the new fire station being built on the north side of the freeway in Agoura Hills misstated that Fire Station No. 65 would close once the new station opened on Canwood Street. Fire Station No. 65 will continue to operate in its current location after Station No. 89 is completed north of the 101 Freeway on Canwood Street. There will, however, be some changes to Fire Station No. 65. First, it will be an engine company. According to Maria Grycan, a community service representative for the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Fire Station No. 65 will be manned by four-member team, including a captain, a firefighter specialist and two firefighters. Regarding paramedic services, Grycan explained that "the paramedic’s squad is a regional resource." She added that it’s just a coincidence that a paramedic currently lives at Fire Station No. 65. Fire Station No. 89 will be comprised of an engine and squad, which will include a captain, a firefighter and squad of two paramedics. "Paramedics are strategically placed so they can serve our entire region," Grycan said. The new fire station will span 12,000 square feet and feature a community room. The total cost for the project will be about $4.4 million. —Stephanie Bertholdo |
