You can express gratitude to servicemen, women who are serving overseas

With thousands of troops deployed overseas and thousand more readying for deployment, the American Legion has re-launched a free, easy way to thank them for their service on the eve of Veterans Day, Tues., Nov. 11.

According to the Indianapolis-based American Legion, the electronic greeting cards are "also ideal to thank all veterans, of all generations, who have served in the U.S. armed forces."

"Veterans and those serving in the military services today need to see that there are friends and family members who are proud of their sacrifices for America," said John Brieden, national commander of the American Legion.

Anyone who has an e-mail account may receive the special cards, which may be created at the American Legion’s Internet Website, www.legion.org.

"Our troops serving overseas often have access to e-mail and they look forward to the cards that do not take up a lot of bandwidth," said Brieden.

The American Legion site offers e-mail cards representing each military service along with the service song that plays when the card is opened. Each card provides plenty of space to compose a personal message, according to Brieden.

Greeting cards may be sent directly to active duty service men and women if their military e-mail addresses are known. The free service is being offered for the fifth consecutive year. Cards may be sent now through Wed., Nov. 12.
