Calabasas Farmers’ Market reopens in Old Town The Calabasas Farmers’ Market returned to Old Town last Saturday. The market had recently been relocated to the future Calabasas Civic Center site at the corner of Park Sorrento and Park Centre after almost 11 years at the Old Town site. The market was initially moved from Old Town because it had been using the site at no charge and was suddenly expected to pay rent, according to sources. After some inquiries, Calabasas City Councilman Barry Groveman discovered that the market managers operated without insurance for eight months and claimed to be a nonprofit organization but offered no written proof, while collecting money. "The market is now back in Old Town where it belongs," Groveman said. "I was very pleased with it on Saturday." The city council recently voted to terminate the previous market contract. The Farmers’ Market is now under new management. The Calabasas Farmers’ Market operates every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. It features an assortment of vendors with fresh produce and various foods and flowers. —Michael Picarella |
