Conejo Jewish Academy begins fall semester Conejo Jewish Academy’s fall semester will kick off today, Thurs., Oct. 23. Adult education classes are offered to the community at large on a wide variety of Judaic subjects. Classes are at the academy, 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills as well as in Calabasas and Thousand Oaks. Course fees average around $18 to $25. Some courses, such as "The Dynamics of Jewish Law," which will be offered at 8 p.m. Thursdays beginning tonight, are offered free. This course, led by Rabbi Shlomo Bistritzky, will examine the world of Jewish law, the freedom of authentic Jewish debate, the interplay of unchanging truths and an ever-changing world, and more. The academy also offers weekly Bible Study Groups, women’s programs, workshops and lectures. Rabbi Moshe D. Bryski will lead a Bible Study Group at 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays studying "The Golden Calf—A Nation Stumbles." At 8 p.m. Wednesdays a similar class will focus on the eighth of the Ten Commandments, "Do Not Bear False Witness." These groups have no fee and reservations aren’t required. The academy will host a lecture titled "Abraham and the Birth of Monotheism" at 8 p.m. Mon., Oct. 27. The lecturer is David Klinghoffer, author of "The Discovery of God." He’s a former literary editor of "The National Review" and a convert to Judaism who "set out on a mission to find his father Abraham [Israel’s first patriarch]."
