Psoriasis can be treated with lasers

Psoriasis sufferers now have a new treatment option, according to Michael Tabibian, M.D., of Agoura Hills Dermatology, whose offices recently installed an XTRAC excimer laser system for the treatment of psoriasis, a chronic recurring skin condition with no known cure. It produces red, scaly skin plaques and affects an estimated 7 million Americans.

Using a carefully focused beam of light delivered through a sophisticated fiberoptic device, the XTRAC laser can help treat unsightly psoriatic skin lesions quickly and minimize exposure of healthy skin to harmful ultraviolet rays. Individuals with psoriasis may often obtain relief in just 4 to 10 brief treatment sessions. Most treatment sessions last only a few minutes, and relief may often last for several months.

"We’re using an exciting new technology and getting great results for our patients," said Dr. Tabibian.
