Look closely before you vote for Soteras

I served on the Agoura Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors with Alex Soteras, but left the board when Alex took over. I and several other board members did not like the way he became president. Now I see similar things in this city council race.

I wasn’t going to say or write anything, but I feel people should know the real Alex. Look at his campaign material carefully: he says he’s opposed to the Ahmanson development, but the truth is Ahmanson lists him as a supporter. When has he ever done anything for open space? Or helped solve traffic problems?

His slogan is "New Ideas," but there are no new ideas anywhere in his literature or on his Website. His literature says he supports law enforcement (who doesn’t?), but all he’s done is give certificates to deputies at the chamber’s expense. He says he’s for our schools (who isn’t?), but all he’s really done is give out certificates to 15 teachers a year, again at the chamber’s expense. And how does giving out certificates help the local business owner stay in business?

Alex says he has "proven leadership," but the chamber is now less supportive of local business and more like a service club, giving out certificates and giving donations to certain select groups. When was the last business fair or sidewalk sale to help our local stores? Maybe there should be less pictures of the president in the newspaper and more nuts and bolts service to the business community.

Lastly, it seems to me that he is trying to buy this election. He’s already in debt (trust him with our city finances?) as he has already loaned his campaign almost $10,000 and he’s spent over $15,000. All this for a job that pays $300 a month! Enough with the slick mailers already.

Read his material—carefully.
