Let’s stop speeding in Calabasas This afternoon a friend of mine related to me that a co-worker with whom she worked closely was walking with her husband at Ventura Boulevard and White Oak Avenue, as they did every morning. But on this morning they were both struck and killed by an automobile. This brings up an issue for me here in Calabasas Village. My husband and I live in a mobile home community. The speed limit here is 15 mph, although I see cars and trucks alike, UPS, FedEx and other vehicles going over the limit, especially as they are entering and leaving the park. In our community, people walk, jog, and ride bikes and scooters, along with electric scooters for the disabled. If a vehicle is going too fast, they may not see the pedestrian because of a blind spot or something else. This subject is very important to me since I was struck by a car at age 6. I survived, but not everyone is as fortunate. Cars and pedestrians should be able to coexist with one another and not have any mishaps. We need to work together as a community in Calabasas Village and the city of Calabasas and remain a safe place to live. We owe it to our friends, families and neighborhood. Please give consideration to this issue and contact the city of Calabasas traffic coordinator for more information and comments. We can change things for the better if we just let our views be known.
