Local flora on display at fair, sale

The California Native Plant Society will present its annual Native Plant Sale and Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Oct. 11 and 12 at the Sepulveda Garden Center, 16633 Magnolia Blvd., Encino.

The sale will offer a selection of more than 100 native plant species for purchase.

Attendees may choose from seeds, small or larger container plants that are colorful, fragrant, edible, attractive to butterflies and songbirds, with many of them drought tolerant and fire resistant. The event offers an opportunity for the public to learn how to integrate native plants into an existing home landscape.

The event will also feature expert planting advice, books, arts and crafts, children’s activities, teacher information, plus light refreshments. Admission is free. The sale is sponsored by the California Native Plant Society, Los Angeles-Santa Monica Mountains Chapter. During the event, those interested may become a member of the society and will receive a free gift upon sign-up.

The society offers a wide range of activities and is an advocate for protecting and preserving California’s native flora within its natural habitat. For more information, please call (818) 881-3521.
