Guests to take a trip back 100 years ago "An Evening on the Conejo—1900," an annual benefit for the Stagecoach Inn Museum, will be presented on Fri. and Sat., Oct. 10 and 11 at the museum, 51 S. Ventu Park Road, Newbury Park. The event is a living history presentation and supper. Guests will find that the clock has been turned back to the Conejo Valley of 1900, when the population was 180 people. An authentic period meal, served by costumed waitresses, is part of the experience, in addition to guided tours of the grounds in groups of a dozen guests. Among the characters to be encountered: a snake-oil salesman, gypsies in their encampment and a blacksmith who will be talking to a traveler with a broken wheel on his automobile and a local family. Guests will also listen to political discussions in the carriage house. In the hotel (formerly the Grand Union Hotel, then the Conejo Hotel in 1900), guests will watch saloon poker players in action, listen in on three teenagers discussing fashions and watch visiting dignitaries. Tickets are $40 ($30 is tax deductible). For reservations or tickets, please call (805) 523-1123. |
