Recommends Edelston, Soteras

I want to take this opportunity to recap some of the things I’m most proud of in my years on the council and then to urge you to vote for individuals that share my commitments and vision and that I think will help make a difference to our quality of life in our community.

I fought as a member of Save Open Space to prevent the development of Jordan Ranch, and long ago I came out opposing Ahman-son Ranch.

I began the Open Space Initiative during my first term as mayor, and we now have acquired hundreds of acres of land to preserve for generations to come.

I convened a business round table to finally give the business community an opportunity to say in public what they had been saying to me over the years. What came out of that session were numerous suggestions that have already been implemented, allowing a smoother process for permits, a fresh approach in dealing with the businesses that bring about more of a partnership rather than an adversarial one, and finally the potential to review both lighting and signage issues that have always been an issue in the city.

I have always supported the removal of the unsightly billboards, pole signs and utility poles, and you need only look around the city to see how far we’ve come in reducing the blight that once surrounded and confronted us. There is more good news coming on this front in the months ahead.

I made sure I was part of all things Agoura, from my involvement as the chamber liaison for the city, to my time on the various committees that gave me the chance to see firsthand the real concerns the residents have and then to address them, to my time on my homeowners’ association and most especially my years as Cub Master for our Scouts. I made sure I was always approachable and listened to the problems and concerns of people and businesses, and it made me proud to have the support and confidence of so many.

All these things give me a unique perspective as not only a councilman but as a husband, a dad and ordinary resident. This is why I have decided, after waiting to see who all of the candidates were, to endorse John Edelston and Alex Soteras for city council.

Both Alex and John bring with them real-life experiences, a sense of fair play; as long-time residents they are individuals who see the need to continue the commitment to police, fire, schools, open space and our local businesses. They are businessmen who understand the need to be reasonable and flexible when dealing with people’s lives and treasures and not dismiss other’s concerns with disdain or ridicule.

They are independent thinkers with a wealth of ideas for our community, and I urge you to join me in voting for Alex Soteras and John Edelston this Nov. 4. You will be glad you did.
