Kids’ programs offered for naturalists Mountains Restoration Trust presents a youth naturalist program designed to provide children ages 8 through 12 with a unique environmental education experience. Most sessions will include a hike, discovery lab and a related craft. The programs will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on the second Saturday of each month at Headwater Corners, 3815 Old Topanga Canyon Road, Calabasas. Sat., Oct. 11: "Mammals." This session offers a hike during which participants will look for signs of mammals, a guest speaker who will bring live mammals, and a mammal craft. Sat., Nov. 8: "Native American Culture." On a hike participants will discover which plants and animals the Native Americans used for food, clothing, tools, toys, medicine, etc. There will be a Native American craft and a guest speaker who will bring a variety of Native American artifacts and legends. Sat., Dec. 13: "Astronomy." This session will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Participants will learn about the night sky with the aid of several telescopes. There will be guest speakers to guide participants through the stars, planets, nebulae and constellations. An astronomy craft will also be offered. The cost is $15 per child per session.
