Chabad to host one-stop Sukkah shop To help the Jewish community celebrate the holiday of Sukkot, Chabad of the Conejo has arranged "The One-Stop-Sukkah-Shop" from 5 to 9:30 p.m., Wed. Oct. 8 at the Chabad Center, 30345 Canwood St., Agoura Hills. All the holiday needs for Sukkot will be available including Esrog and Lulav sets, palm branches and Sukkah decorations. A Sukkah supplier will be on hand with all materials required for quick assembly of a home Sukkah. The holiday of Sukkot (Festival of Booths) follows four days after Yom Kippur. It is a very festive holiday that represents the "Season of Rejoicing." During this holiday, Jewish families eat and spend time in a Sukkah (a temporary hut), to remind them of the clouds of glory that surrounded and protected the Children of Israel after leaving the exile in Egypt. A blessing is made each day of the holiday on "Four Species," a citron, a branch of date palm, a myrtle and willow that represents the unity of the Jewish people. Chabad will travel through the community Mon. through Thurs., Oct. 13 through 16 with a Sukkah Mobile, a Sukkah built on the back of a flatbed truck. It will visit shopping centers throughout the Conejo Valley and Calabasas offering the Jewish community the opportunity to visit a Sukkah and make the blessing of the "Four Species." For more information on the holiday, please call Chabad at (818) 991-0991. |
