Oak Park’s cell phone antenna discussed by Supervisor Parks

I’d like to thank The Acorn for informing residents of Oak Park on issues that affect their community. Your coverage regarding the county’s approval of another cell phone antenna at the Church of the Epiphany is a case in point.

It is very important to me that the public have access to government and input into decisions that affect them. In this regard, I was glad to see that the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) was able to hold two public meetings dedicated to hearing about the Cingular Wireless antenna application, once in May and then again at the July MAC meeting.

Personally, I’m not a fan of cellular antennas and it is true that I voted against a cell tower on a protected ridgeline in open space. My preference is for small antennas on light poles along major arterials.

The issue of the Cingular antenna in a fake chimney at the Church had been discussed and presented to the community both at the two MAC meetings and in The Acorn.

It is important to me that the public not be kept in the dark and that projects and applications are given an opportunity for full comment and review. It is also important to me that the public’s input is heard and considered.
