Agoura Hills shortchanged the school district

I would like to respond to the letter written by Agoura Hills Councilmember Louise Rishoff in the Sept. 18 Acorn. I believe that Nicole McAdam’s facts were true and justified. I also think Rishoff misinterpreted what she meant by "back-door move." Obviously, there were public notice hearings on the Oak Creek development. However, what was suggested during those meetings was far different than what has happened.

For example, out of the approximately $6.25 million given to the city in developer fees, only $50,000 was given to Sumac. In comparison, Thousand Oaks gave half of their Dos Vientos developer funds to the school district. The approximately $700,000 required funds paid to the school district is a one-time payment that will surely be gobbled up quickly. Then what?

Furthermore, according to a letter written by the LVUSD to the city of Agoura, the project would bring a projected 554 new students to the district, not the 100 she has estimated. It also states that the school district did not approve of this project. Let’s also consider that the average time a tenant stays in an apartment complex is two years. I’ll bet the school district will not like the constant students in-students out adjustments they will have to make.

If the developer and the city believes that three restaurants in Agoura will gross $18 million a year annually, they surely have never been in the restaurant business.

Finally, sometimes you can only fight a project after the fact because that is when the truth about the project comes out.

The comment about calling city hall for the facts . . . you must be joking!
