New tool puts the focus on vitiligo

Finally, vitiligo sufferers may be able to enjoy effective relief from the unsightly symptoms of vitiligo, thanks to a revolutionary new laser treatment. Developed by PhotoMedex of Radnor, PA, the XTRAC™ is the first FDA-market-cleared excimer laser system to treat vitiligo.

"We’re using an exciting new technology and getting great results for our patients," said Dr. Michael Tabibian, whose office recently installed an XTRAC excimer laser system for the treatment of vitiligo.

Vitiligo is a skin condition that causes a loss of pigmentation in the skin, resulting in smooth, whitish patches with normal skin texture. In addition to white patches on the skin, people with vitiligo may have premature graying of the scalp hair, eyelashes, eyebrows and beard.

Using a carefully focused beam of laser light delivered through a sophisticated fiberoptic device, the XTRAC system can treat unsightly vitiligo skin patches quickly and effectively in some patients. Because it concentrates light only on the affected area, XTRAC can deliver the doses necessary to help stimulate the melanocytes without exposing healthy skin to harmful ultraviolet rays, as in traditional phototherapy. "We are very pleased to offer our patients the latest technology available in their fight against vitiligo," said Dr. Tabibian.

For more information on the XTRAC system, call Dr. Tabibian’s office at (818) 706-3744. He is at 29525 Canwood St., Ste. 220, Agoura Hills.
