Last of traffic calming workshops set

Worried about speeding drivers in Calabasas or too many speed humps?

The city of Calabasas hosts workshops to discuss traffic calming in different regions of the city and the public is invited to share concerns and opinions. Workshops focus on individual sections of the city and only two remain.

The meetings help create an overall traffic plan that will emphasize safe speeds, according to Calabasas assistant transportation planner Tom Gdala.

"Based on all the workshops and the data that we get from those workshops," Gdala said, "the city and the staff will make recommendations to the council on what we believe will be best for the community."

Regions 1, 2 and 3 are the remaining areas to be covered in upcoming workshops. Regions 1 and 2 are considered to be the Malibu Canyon community, north of the 101 Freeway, east of Las Virgenes Road. Region 3 represents Saratoga.

The traffic calming workshop for Regions 1 and 2 will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. next Tues., Sept. 23 at Calabasas City Hall, 26135 Mureau Road in council chambers. The traffic calming workshop for Region 3 will be at the same time on Tues., Oct. 28, also at city hall.

City staff will probably recommend the traffic improvement plan to council members in December, according to Gdala.
