Chamber to present annual Penland Awards

The Agoura/Oak Park/Las Virgenes Chamber of Commerce has announced that the widows of Robert Kahn and J.D. Thornbury will accept the Chamber’s Penland Awards on behalf of their late husbands. The awards will be presented during a fundraiser to benefit the Wellness Community at 6 p.m. Sat., Oct. 18 in the Praying Monk at The Canyon, 28211 Roadside Drive, Agoura Hills. The event will feature blackjack, a silent auction, door prizes and food.

Bob Kahn was a community leader in Oak Park and was instrumental in helping its schools. He served on the Oak Park Unified School District Board of Education for many years.

J.D. Thornbury was a horseman, cowboy and friend to many local residents. He also served as a friendly crossing guard for years at Willow Elementary School where many children knew him.

The "Agoura Beautiful" Award will be presented to the Agoura Hills Senior Retreat’s attractive new facility on Chesebro Road.

Tickets are $30 each or $50 per couple. Table sponsorships are available for $200, which includes admission and one’s business advertised. Reservations with payment must be received by Fri., Oct. 10. For reservations or more information, please call the Chamber at (818) 889-3150.
