Vintage autos to compete

The Acura Palos Verdes Concours D’Elegance event, with the theme "Sun, Surf and Classic Cars," will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sun., Sept. 14 at Ocean Trails Golf Club, One Ocean Trails Drive, at Palos Verdes Drive South, Rancho Palos Verdes.

Some of California’s best vintage automobiles, ranging from pre-1916 horseless carriages to late-model (pre-1976) Ferraris, will compete in 23 classes.

In addition to naming a winner in each class, judges will present six special awards including the most exciting open car, the Eric P. Allan most elegant car, best sports car, best finish, chairman’s choice and best of show.

Guests and exhibitors are invited to come dressed in a costume from one of the featured eras. Leon Kaplan, known as KABC’s Motor Man, will serve as grand marshal, broadcasting his Sunday morning radio show on site and displaying cars from his private collection.

Advance purchase tickets are $25, otherwise $35 at the gate. Proceeds will benefit the community programs of the Palos Verdes Art Center and the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Foundation. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call (866) 522-7746.
