AHS graduate wins triathlon in Santa Barbara

J.J. Kaye, who was featured in The Acorn last spring, recently won the 18- and 19-year-old age group at the Santa Barbara Long Course Triathlon. The event on Aug. 23 consisted of a one-mile swim, a 34-mile bike ride and a 10-mile run.

Kaye completed the triathlon in three hours, five minutes and 26 seconds. He finished 16th overall among 500 competitors.

Earlier this summer in the Pacific Coast Triathlon held in Newport Beach, Kaye took third place in his age group, finishing 42 overall out of more than 1,200 competitors. That course brought together the best triathletes in the western United States.

Kaye is a 2003 graduate of Agoura High School where he played water polo and swam for the Chargers.

He’ll be attending UCLA as a freshman this year and will compete on the Bruins triathlon and cycling teams.
