Classes should reopen after
Labor Day
Now here is a whimsical topic that is nevertheless bound to stir up some controversy. Back to school! Ask any adult of any age when they remember they went back to school, and they will say that Labor Day was the unofficial end of summer. After that it was time to go back to school. I realize that there are more holidays and "pupil-free days" (teacher continuing education days) being added and that we have to keep a minimum number of school days, but why can’t we add those on to the end of school? I promise not to write another editorial to The Acorn in June. If I had to choose between having my kids in school during the June gloom weather pattern or the scorcher August days, I’d choose the former hands down. July and August by definition (mine, anyway) are summer vacation months, to keep it simple, and no, this is not even about year-round schooling. LVUSD: Start school after the Labor Day weekend.
