Charger Legion team completes summer season Agoura’s 16th District squad finishes with 26-3 record The Agoura 16th District American Legion 17 and under team completed a very successful summer recently, finishing with a record of 26-3. The team, made up entirely of players from Agoura High School, went undefeated in the regular season, and then beat Oak Park to win the district and then Granada Hills Kennedy to win the region. In the Southern California Championship series played at LaPalma Park in Anaheim, Agoura tied the final game, 8-8, four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, only to lose in the top of the ninth to a stubborn San Juan Capistrano team. Home runs by Ryan Metzroth and J.T. Trelatsky and a triple by Drew Norton aided the comeback. Agoura fielded a balanced team whose starting nine all played varsity for Agoura High School this spring. All will return to AHS next season. The team hit 40 home runs this summer. They were led offensively by right fielder Ryan Metzroth (.493) and pitcher/center fielder Jonathan Fersht (.560) with nine home runs each; and by first baseman Brendan Quon and pitcher/outfielder J.T. Trelatsky with seven and five home runs, respectively. These four hitters, as well as third baseman/pitcher Grant Hirneise, batted over .400. Other hitters who homered included Hirneise, speedy left fielder Jon Lawyer and second baseman Nick Faranacci. Rounding out the starting nine were defensive whizzes, catcher Curtis Courtney and shortstop Scott Scher. Backing up the starting nine were catcher Steven Reinhardt, infielder Brandon Allen and outfielder Nick Reitz. The pitching staff was led by starters Trelatsky, Fersht, Jason Novak and Greg Gelber. The bullpen stopper was Grant Hirneise, who was joined in the pen by Jordan Rippe, Nick Saul and Robert Stock. The coaches were Zach Miller, Dennis Reitz and Chuck Quon. The AHS Chargers played more than 60 games together between the varsity and summer seasons, and are poised to compete in what promises to be a strong Marmonte League season next spring. |
