Kids enjoy shopping spree

On Sat., Aug. 9 a group of local students were among the nearly 15,000 children nationwide to receive $100 each to shop for their back-to-school clothes and shoes during Mervyn’s 11th annual ChildSpree event.

ChildSpree was created in 1993 to help underprivileged children look their best and feel more comfortable and confident as they go back to school.

Mervyn’s location on Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks partnered with Camarillo-based Interface Children Family Services, which serves Ventura County youth and their families.

Volunteers from the store and the nonprofit agency chaperoned the children, who had the opportunity to make their own clothing selections.
