Public outcry may have been a factor on postponement of big store vote

Public outcry may have been a factor on postponement of big store vote

I think one of the reasons the city council decided not to discuss the amendment at the Aug. 6 meeting was because they received many e-mails over the last three weeks from citizens who told them that we do not want a retail store over 60,000 square feet in Agoura Hills. It only was pulled from the agenda two days before the meeting, I think this led to the closer study they’re now going to give it.

No project has been officially filed with the city for a shopping center that would exceed the 60,000 square-foot cap. But there is one floating around. Should the council try to change the zoning law before a project is filed, thereby accommodating a developer, or should a developer work within the current zoning laws? Should the council be spearheading a change to the zoning laws, or should a developer? If their own citizens had to do it on their own, then why shouldn’t a developer?

I urge the citizens of Agoura Hills to keep a watch on this issue. It’s not going away. Check out the city’s Website at www.ci.agoura-hills.ca.us/ to learn when this will be on future agendas of the council and planning commission meetings. Then attend those meetings. This is one of the many things that affect our community, people! Please get informed and get involved.
