Bad drivers set poor example, why aren’t people

Bad drivers set poor example, why aren’t people

using turn signals?

The July 31 letter from Kira Vincze, "Common courtesy missing among Calabasas drivers," is a letter that needed to be written. I would like to add a thought or two to her letter.

I have always thought that the parent should be a role model for theirs and other children. The parents in her letter are setting very poor examples. And from this poor example will come more poor examples. When the child sees the parents disobeying the law, and that is what they are doing, and getting away with it, what is to prevent them from doing the same?

Kira talks about signals (turn signals) and the way that people don’t use them. As a driver, I always use turn signals before I move my vehicle from a straight line. It lets those around me know what I am going to do and I hope they appreciate it. There are rules in the Vehicle Code on using turn signals, and these rules apply to everyone

. . . supposedly.

I hope Lost Hills Capt. Tom Martin will think about having his deputies use their turn signals while cruising the area. They, after all, should be setting an example for adults to follow. It’s been years since I saw a black and white with a sheriff’s sticker use turn signals.

A good letter, Kira, and I hope it does some good.

More people would use their turning signals, too, if law enforcement would start ticketing motorists for failure to signal a turn or lane change.
