Jewish arts festival comes to Skirball

Skirball Cultural Center is presenting an international festival of contemporary music, theater, dance, lectures and film titled "Zeitgeist."

The Harry and Belle Krupnick International Jewish Arts Festival draws on some of the world’s finest artists who utilize Jewish traditions for the purpose of creating contemporary work. "Zeitgeist" means spirit of the time, defined as the taste and outlook characteristic of a period or generation, taken from the German root zeit, time.

"From DJ culture in London to the theaters of the emerging Uzbekistan Republic, Jewish—and surprisingly—non-Jewish artists alike are taking Jewish cultural values and issues of identity and creating cutting edge art," according to a Skirball spokeswoman.

The festival begins with two concentrated weeks of performances this month and then continues with a series of programs through March 2004.

For information on additional programs, call (310) 440-4500 or visit www.skirball.org.

Skirball Cultural Center is at 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles. Admission is free through Oct. 15.
