Free film screening examines democracy The public is invited to attend a video presentation from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Tues., July 29 at the Thousand Oaks Public Library, 1401 E. Janss Road of Danny Schechter’s "Counting on Democracy," an hour-long film documenting "the untold story" of 175,000 missing votes in the 2000 presidential election. This video, narrated by Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, features BBC investigative reporter Greg Palast, author of "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy." The documentary aired on many public televisions stations, but not in the Conejo Valley. A discussion will follow, facilitated by the Global Exchange supporters committee. Global Exchange is an international human rights organization dedicated to promoting environmental, political and social justice. There is much concern about the 2004 presidential election in California and other states, in which officials are proposing to use electronic voting machines that might not be able to provide a "paper trail" to ensure voting reliability and back-up documentation. For further information, e-mail GXventuraTO@aol.com or call (805) 241-8855. Admission is free. |
