Job seekers satisfied with Ventura County career center

A recent survey of Ventura County’s One-Stop Job & Career Centers showed high satisfaction among job seekers who use them. The Workforce Investment Board of Ventura County (WIB) oversees six Job & Career Centers and two satellite offices countywide, which are operated through a network of local organizations and agencies. Serving more than 6,000 new visitors each month, the centers are a resource for job seekers for coaching on interviews, access to training, research on employers, job placement assistance, and support services such as childcare and transportation.

The survey found that the majority of job seekers visiting the centers received:

Help in identifying their job skills and interests;

Information on occupations available in their area;

Help in choosing an occupation;

Job searching assistance;

And referrals to employers with current openings.

Other services received at the centers include computer assistance, typing certificates, child development resources, workshops, counseling, Medi-Cal and food stamps.

"The centers are designed to help people overcome challenges and barriers so that they can achieve their short and long-term career goals," said Barry Zimmerman, director of the county’s Business and Employment Services Department. "This survey will help us understand how our services address those needs from the job seeker’s perspective, and in what areas we can make improvements or offer additional services."
