ID Tech camps promote filmmaking

Hands-on activities offered for 8 through 17 year olds

Founded in 1999, ID Tech Camps provide hands-on technology summer camps for boys and girls ages 8 through 17 at locations including California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks and Pepperdine University in Malibu. At these day and overnight camps, participants produce digital movies, create video games, design Web pages, compose and mix digital music, learn programming and robotics and more.

The hands-on, project-based programs offer one computer per student with an average of six students per instructor. Each student completes a project at the end of the weeklong program.

Andrew Metzger of Newbury Park, 12, attended ID Tech Camps last summer at the Cal Lutheran and Pepperdine locations, where he ultimately spent four weeks at camp, learning to design a Website, create a stop motion animation movie and two digital video movies. He learned how to use Macromedia’s Dreamweaver and Flash, Adobe’s Photoshop, Apple’s Final Cut Pro and other high end technology products.

Since his camp experience, Andrew’s been creating stop motion animation movies at home and incorporating his newfound skills into his schoolwork, including creating a digital video for a physical education course in which he wrote the script and starred as the host. His 17-minute video was complete with transitions, sound effects, music and titles—all skills he learned while attending summer camp.

Parents Gerhard and Dolly Metzger have been very pleased with the knowledge and self-confidence Andrew has gained. One of the movies their son wrote, storyboarded, directed and starred in earned Andrew an Honorable Mention for Best Action Adventure in ID Tech Camps Nationwide DV contest.

Also offered is a new Documentary Filmmaking & Cultural Immersion in Spain two-week study abroad program. For additional information about the 2003 summer programs, locations and registration details, call (888) 709-8324 or visit www.internalDrive.com.
