Course for first-time homebuyers set for Saturday

The Area Housing Authority of Ventura County and Irwin Mortgage will jointly sponsor a free educational program, the "School of Homebuying" course, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Sat., May 31 at 1400 W. Hillcrest Drive, Newbury Park. The program is designed to prepare entry level buyers for the responsibilities of home ownership. Any potential first-time home buyer is invited.

The course will explore various programs available in Ventura County to make home ownership more affordable for low to moderate income families.

Several federal, state, county and city programs will be discussed.

Co-sponsor Irwin Mortgage Corp. is an approved lender for the Thousand Oaks Ownership Assistance Program.

Families or individuals wishing to purchase a home in the city of Thousand Oaks may qualify for up to $20,000. These funds, covering up to 10 percent of the home’s purchase price, are used to cover the entire down payment and most of the closing costs.
