Two local Ventura County schools named California Distinguished for 2003

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell has announced that Los Cerritos Middle School and Westlake High School, two Conejo Valley Unified School District schools, have been selected as California Distinguished Schools for 2003. Fewer than 400 of the 2,228 middle and high schools in the state were eligible to apply for the honor, based on their Academic Performance Index (API) results.

Los Cerritos and Westlake, along with Moorpark High School, were the three Ventura County schools that applied for this recognition and were selected.

The Distinguished Schools underwent a rigorous selection process conducted by the California Department of Education in partnership with the Ventura County Superintendent of Schools Office.

In January, Brookside Elementary School in the Oak Park Unified School District, was one of two Ventura County elementary schools nominated for national recognition as 2003 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools.

Blue Ribbon School nominees and California Distinguished Schools will be honored at a ceremony on Fri., May 16 at the Disneyland Hotel.
