Two attorneys move on in Calabasas

Two attorneys move on in Calabasas

The jury is still out, but it appears that at least one and possibly two lawyers are being divorced or are separating themselves from city hall in Calabasas.

The city attorney has resigned and the press won’t miss him.

Charles Vose rarely returned phone calls from reporters.

We can’t understood how any city official, elected or otherwise, can ignore phone calls from the media.

If answering press questions isn’t in the job description of a city attorney, then something’s wrong. Anybody in city management whose salary is paid by taxpayers should be compelled to answer inquiries from the media.

How else can a free press inform the people about their government?

Another lawyer, Katherine Stone, has represented Calabasas in its lawsuits against Ahmanson Ranch. But some members of the city council are apparently concerned that the taxpayers might be paying too much for her services.

Until now, Stone is neither resigning nor reapplying for her job. A recent edict from the city council calls for anyone under contract with the city to resign (and re-apply, if they want to keep their job).

In essence, it appears that Stone’s relationship with Calabasas is finished, even if the city continues its fight against Ahmanson Ranch.

The only winners so far in the Ahmanson fight have been the attorneys on both sides.

Now somebody new will be hitting the jackpot.
